David Pajo to Release Second Pajo Album
George Stephanopoulos to consider Stephanopoulos album
It took a while for former Slint, Tortoise, and Zwan member and Stereolab and Palace contributor David Pajo to get out from under the shadow of his "M" pseudonyms (Papa, Ariel, and plain ol' M) and release material under his own surname, but after last year's well received Pajo, he isn't showing any signs of slowing down.
His second album under the Pajo moniker, called 1968, arrives this coming Tuesday, August 22 via Drag City.
The album takes its name from the year of Pajo's birth, and on it he attempts to usher in what a press release calls "a new Americana"-- interesting considering some of the album's foreign inspiration. The tune "Cyclone Eye" is "a story of murder and disintegration, taken from varying [Canadian death metal band] Gorguts lyrics," and "Prescription Blues" is said to contain "imagery that beckons [14th Century Iranian poet] Hafiz poetics." Talk about going back to your-- or somebody's-- roots.
Pajo's still in touch with the old Americana, though, on "Let It Be Me", his "homage to country royalty."
Tired of press release speak? Then take a look at this tracklist.
1968:
01 Who's That Knocking
02 Foolish King
03 We Get Along, Mostly
04 Prescription Blues
05 Insomnia Song
06 Wrong Turn
07 Cyclone Eye
08 Walk Through the Dark
09 Let It Be Me
10 I've Just Restored My Will to Live Again
Pajo just wrapped up a short summer tour, but we reckon he'll be seized by that great American urge to hit the road again soon. That is, unless he's too busy with his latest band, this one a Judas Priest/Iron Maiden homage lovingly christened Dead Child. Joining Pajo in classic metal worship are Tony Bailey (Lords), Todd Cook (Shipping News), Dahm (Phantom Family Halo), and Michael McMahen (The For Carnation, Phantom Family Halo). The act have an EP on the way, but until then, residents of DC's hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, USA, check your notions of logic at the door and experience LIVE Dead Child this weekend:
