Hallowed Dream strikes from off the pace to capture Yerba Buena

Hallowed Dream (Ire) rallied from more than seven lengths off the pace to post her fourth straight win and first stakes victory with a 1 1/4-length score on Sunday in the $125,000 Yerba Buena Breeders' Cup Handicap (G3) at Golden Gate Fields.

The Alhaarth filly rated in seventh in the early stages of the 1 1/8-mile turf race for older fillies and mares and advanced into striking distance approaching the final turn. Jockey Dennis Carr angled Hallowed Dream four wide on the turn and his mount responded with a game winning rally, surging to the lead at the eighth-pole and remaining clear to prevail in 1:47.76 over firm turf.

Runner-up Sky Dreams dug in to take second, 1 1/4 lengths clear of third-placed finisher Dreams Come True (Fr). Even-money favorite Dream Lady flattened out in the stretch and faded to sixth.

Hallowed Dream was shipped to North America, following a runner-up finish in the Premio Oaks D'Italia (Ity-G1) (Italian Oaks), to contest the American Oaks Invitational Stakes (G1) in July 2005 at Hollywood Park.

Still in search of her first career win, Hallowed Dream was unplaced behind dominant victor Cesario (Jpn) in the American Oaks before placing in a pair of maiden special weight races during the Oak Tree meeting at Santa Anita. She broke through with a 3 1/2-length win at Santa Anita on December 28 to cap her sophomore campaign and has reeled off three straight wins this season for trainer Ben Cecil and owner Gary Tanaka.

Bred in Ireland by Paul Ronan, Hallowed Dream is out of the unraced Soviet Star mare Salul. Hallowed Dream improved to four wins from 16 career starts and boosted her bankroll to $302,448.
