'Yeah Yeah Yeahs' are a New York City-based rock & roll band headed by lead singer Karen O. Other members are Brian Chase (drums) and Nick Zinner (guitars). Their music is a mix of retro styles with heavy rock/punk guitars, synthetic sounds and screaming, erratic and bluesy vocals. They were formed in 2000.
History
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs' debut album was a self-titled EP, released in 2001. They followed this up with another EP, Machine, in 2002. In 2003 the Yeah Yeah Yeahs released their first complete album, Fever to Tell.
Fever was hailed by many critics as one of the best albums of the year in 2003. Their 2003 single, "Maps", received significant radio time, and the video to their 2004 single, "Y Control", was directed by acclaimed director Spike Jonze, who was involved with the band's lead singer Karen O for a period. In October 2004, their first DVD, Tell Me What Rockers to Swallow, was released, which included a concert filmed at The Fillmore in San Francisco, all of the band's music videos to date, and interviews.
