Greta teenager's competition win brings The Veronicas to town
Wednesday, 3 May 2006
Greta has played host to one of the hottest acts on the international scene when The Veronicas performed at the local club.
Five hundred young people dressed in the latest fashions (many say they went shopping for the event) descended on the workers club, for a party with 20-year-old twin sisters, Jess and Lisa Origliasso, fresh from winning two major wins at the Australian Video Music Awards.
Among the screaming audience was the person who had brought the Brisbane born songstresses to town.
Rhiannon Jones won a competition through Johnson and Johnson to party with The Veronicas with 500 of her closest friends.
The Year 8 Rutherford High School student was also given 15 minutes alone with the twins with her best friend, Rachel Frew.
The teenagers were all "glammed" up for the big event after having their hair and makeup done at a local salon and going shopping for the perfect outfits.
They also arrived in style in a chauffeur driven limousine.
When Rhiannon's told her school friends she won the competition she says no one would believe her.
"I had to bring the letter to school to show them it was true."
But, choosing 500 family and friends to invite was easy for the teenager, who says she hasn't got a favourite Veronicas song but likes them all.
Rhiannon said the twin-sisters who make up the band very friendly and nice when she spoke with them.
They played three songs for the crowed, before leaving to begin a summer tour in the U.S.
Rhiannon who says she is still shocked it all happened says she will enter more competitions now.
