NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation has taken into custody two persons, who allegedly posed as Minister of State for Home Manikrao Gavit and his personal assistant during their conversations with underworld don Surinder Bhati. Krishan Kumar Jatav and Vinod Kumar were arrested on Saturday after it was discovered that they had been talking to the underworld don and using his "influence" in their real estate business, CBI sources said here. While Jatav posed as the Minister during the conversations with Bhati, lodged in a Bulandshahar jail, Vinod Kumar posed as his private secretary. These conversations were aired by a private TV news channel, prompting the Government to institute a CBI inquiry. The CBI, with the help of the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory, conducted a voice spectography test. On August 24, the agency gave Mr. Gavit a clean chit, saying none of the voices on the tape belonged to him. The agency stumbled upon Jatav after it was informed by the Delhi police on Friday that it had arrested him for posing as the Union Minister.
