Christian punk screamers Underoath are readying their third album and will be touring with some big names this summer to support it.
Tampa, Florida locals Spencer Chamberlain (vocals), Tim McTague (guitar), Grant Brandell (bass), Aaron Gillespie (drums), Christopher Dudley (keyboards) and James Smith (guitar) are currently in Los Angeles mixing the still untitled album with Chris Lord Alge (Green Day, Rob Zombie). The LP was co-produced by Matt Goldman (Copeland, Cartel) and will be released by Tooth And Nail/Solid State Records on June 20.
"This is the record we've been striving to write for the past five years and I never thought I'd see the day when it actually happened," says McTague. "I can't wait for everyone to hear what we've been creating for the past few months, but in the end, if everyone hated it, we'd still think it's probably the best record we may ever be part of."
Underoath's sound, sometimes described as grindcore, will be heard on numerous stages over the coming weeks and months, starting at the end of April at the U.K.'s Give It A Name Festival. The sextet will headline a U.S. jaunt with Poison The Well, As Cities Burn, Spitfire and Since By Man beginning on May 3. Then it's the Bamboozle Festival on May 7 in East Rutherford, New Jersey along side Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance and Senses Fail, among others. They'll also be one of the main stage headliners of this summer's Vans Warped Tour.
Underoath began their religiously slanted hard rock career in 1998. Singer Dallas Taylor left in the midst of the 2003 Warped Tour and the band folded for the remaining dates. They regrouped with Chamberlain as the frontman at the CMJ Festival in New York City that October and have been going strong ever since.
