Uncle Kracker Smacked Down by Judge

Los Angeles (E! Online) - What goes around, comes around—just ask Uncle Kracker, who got smacked around in court Friday for manhandling a woman in a club.

The No Stranger to Shame singer pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge for the August incident in a Raleigh, North Carolina, hotspot.

A Wake County judge sentenced Kracker to a year's probation, fined him $1,500 and ordered him to undergo an alcohol assessment.

Prosecutors said the entertainer, whose real name is Matthew Shafer, put his hand up a woman's skirt at the nightclub. The 26-year-old woman slapped him, and he slapped her back, said Assistant District Attorney Adam Moyers.

Kracker, 33, was originally booked on the more serious charge of second-degree forcible sex.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, the woman, whose name was not disclosed and who was not an acquaintance of the performer, was attacked by Kracker following his show at the Ess Lounge.

She reported the incident to an off-duty cop who was working security at the club.

Police tracked down Kracker at his hotel and arrested him.

Kracker found fame working the turntables on the early tours of childhood pal Kid Rock. In 2000, he released his debut album, Double Wide, which spawned the hit "Follow Me" and sold more than 2 million copies.

He left Rock's stable in 2002 and released the country- and blues-tinged No Stranger to Shame, which was followed by 2004's Seventy Two and Sunny. He also scored a chart-topping country hit with "When the Sun Goes Down," a duet with Kenny Chesney.
