Tru Frut to sponsor chess champion
By A Correspondent

1 May 2006

DUBAI — World under-12 chess champion Narayanan Srinath will be sponsored by Tru Frut Natural Ice Cream during a two-day Rapid Chess Tournament scheduled to be held in Dubai on May 4 and 5.

Mahesh Advani of Govinda’s Restaurant, announcing the sponsorship at a media conference yesterday, said their support was in line with the promotion of chess among the expatriate and local communities. Mahesh, a keen sportsman himself said: “We are happy to be associated with children activity and to support world junior champion, Srinath Narayanan, is a great honour.

He observed that the sponsorship will contribute to the national cause of developing  young talents in the country. “Chess is a popular sport in UAE. Many enthusiastic children have taken up the sport which will also enhance their mental agility and skills in academic front,” he said.

The forthcoming junior chess tournament event is the first to be organised by Govindas and a rolling trophy has been initiated for it. The event is expected to be an annual affair.

The media conference was also attended by Rakesh Chopra.
