There are enough people who need organ transplants in the United States to more than fill Invesco Field at Mile High. Monday night, there's an event to bring awareness to the need for organ donors.
The American Transplant Foundation will host a benefit concert featuring the legendary rhythm and blues group Earth, Wind and Fire. It's called Rockin' Rhythm for Life.
"We're very fortunate," Heidi Heltzel, the Executive Director of the American Transplant Foundation, said. "It turns out, Earth, Wind and Fire came from East High, here in Denver, and they are pleased to participate with us."
The concert will be held Monday night at the City Lights Pavilion in the Pepsi Center parking lot. Tickets can be bought online at American Transplant Foundation's website.
"The proceeds will go to promoting our programs to educate and advance the organ transplant industry," Heltzel said.
According to Heltzel, there is an increasing gap between supply and demand of organs. The benefit's purpose is to reverse that trend and eventually eliminate the organ donor waiting list.
"The people that I have met that have had organ transplants; their lives literally change within hours after the transplant," Heltzel said. "One person who donates can save up to eight lives."
Contemporary jazz trumpeter, Chris Botti, will also perform at the event. Botti has created a series of recordings that have made him a virtual 'genre-of-one' in the realm of contemporary jazz.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and is expected to last until 10. A limited number of general admission tickets will be sold online for $100 each. Individual sponsorships cost $250 and Corporate sponsorships begin at $1,000.
