Quick Hits: Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson, Foo Fighters, Beck, SXSW
February 1, 2008

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake was treated to a 27th birthday surprise on Thursday (January 31) when Madonna presented him with a cupcake and champagne on the set of her new video, according to MTV News. The clip, for "4 Minutes to Save the World," is currently being shot in London and will feature JT as well as Timbaland. The track will appear on Madonna's next album, due this year. Meanwhile, JT also will be featured in a Pepsi commercial during the Super Bowl on Sunday. The clip is called "Magnetic Attraction." "This is a sort of crazy, ridiculous, awesome ride, full of stunts and painful activity," Timberlake said in the press video. "I'm running into buildings, flying up buildings, going through the Hudson River, almost running into cars, taking car doors out, everything you can think of. It's kind of fun but also scary at the same time."

AOL Radio has launched a new "All Michael Jackson" station to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Thriller. The station is streaming Jackson's hits, rarties and more. As previously reported, the 25th anniversary edition of Thriller comes out February 12 and will boast the original album as well as eight bonus tracks and a DVD. The bonus tracks include a Kanye West remix of "Billie Jean," a new version of "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" featuring Akon and will.i.am, will.i.am remixes of "The Girl Is Mine" and "P.Y.T.", and "For All Time," an unreleased cut from the original Thriller recording sessions, which was newly mixed and mastered by Michael Jackson. The other bonus tracks are rarities "Someone In The Dark," "Carousel" and Jackson's demo recording of "Billie Jean."

Fifteen orchestral musicians have been chosen in the My Grammy Moment contest to perform with Foo Fighters during the February 10 Grammy Awards. The musicians are guaranteed a spot in the Foo Fighters' orchestra and will fly to Los Angeles to rehearse and perform with the band. The three finalists that will vie for a "featured performance" slot in the orchestra will be announced on February 4. Meanwhile, Foo Fighters, White Stripes, Nickelback, Green Day, U2, Justin Timberlake, Feist, Amy Winehouse and Corrine Bailey Rae are among the artists featured on the just-released 2008 Grammy Nominees compilation. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the CD benefit the MusiCares Foundation and the Grammy Foundation.

This past Tuesday (January 29) saw the release of the deluxe edition of Beck's classic album, Odelay. However, the booklet for the reissue has incorrect lyrics and the label promises subsequent pressings of the deluxe edition will have the proper lyrics. Additionally, the correct lyrics will be online on Beck.com.

Superstar blogger Perez Hilton announces plans to host his own showcase at the 2008 South By Southwest music festival in Austin, TX next month. No further details have been announced yet.
