New "supergroup" Army Of Anyone saying "Goodbye"

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Army Of Anyone, a new rock act featuring Filter's Richard Patrick and Stone Temple Pilots principals Robert and Dean DeLeo, is introducing itself with the single "Goodbye," which precedes the November 14 release of its self-titled debut album.

The group's members are getting back to their roots and visiting rock radio stations across the country. "We played one at 8:00 this morning in Tampa, Fla.," Patrick told Billboard.com. "But listening to it, you would have thought it was 9:30 at night in a club. It sounded great."

Having played only about 10 shows so far, Patrick says Army Of Anyone will also stick to smaller venues for its first proper tour, which will get underway after the first of the year. "We want to start out in clubs and get sweaty," he said.

Patrick and the DeLeo brothers had crossed paths many times over the years in their past bands, and decided to work together after a productive writing session at Patrick's house.

"Robert was driving over and listening to some of my stuff. He knew I liked stuff in D and D minor, so he was putting a song together in his head. Once he showed up, he started playing me this beautiful music, and that turned into the song 'Better Place' on the album. They recorded everything in one day."

"We just had this connection," he continued. "We were like, if this is a great song, what would a whole record sound like? Then what would a tour be like? We started thinking about all the possibilities."

And while the group will nod to its collective past in a live setting via covers of Filter's "Take a Picture" and STP's "Interstate Love Song," Patrick says he's much more interested in moving forward.

"Filter is not a priority in my life right now," he says. "Who knows. I don't live in a world of absolutes. I take one day at a time. But right now, today, I see myself being in this band for a long time and making many records with them. This band is my priority."
