Progress, But Still Pain After Katrina

The one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina is coming soon. Frustration still remains for many residents affected by the storm.

Both Sen. Trent Lott and Cong. Chip Pickering say they are also frustrated with the slow pace of homeowner grants going out to about 17,000 coast residents who didn't have flood insurance, but they say there is some progress.

"Reconstruction is well underway. Jobs are coming back. In fact, we've got more jobs than people to fill them, which is a little bit of a problem," said Lott.

"We've come a long way in a year," said Pickering. "A lot of frustration, but a lot of good news to tell. We need to get the grants to homeowners so they can begin rebuilding."

All members of Mississippi's Congressional Delegation are expected on the Gulf Coast next week, along with Gov. Haley Barbour. There will be ceremonies commemorating the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
