Filter
Never cluttered, Drowaton is as compelling as it is complex. [Filter Mini #10, p.13]
90
Lost At Sea
Drowaton is as close to an orchestral pop masterpiece as you’re going to get.

Pitchfork
As ornate orchestral pop goes, Starlight Mints are too oddball-flip. They cram their songs with every sound imaginable without making a compelling case for any, and music that's so congested needs a sense of hierarchy.

All Music Guide
Drowaton pulses with ideas and energy, and there doesn't seem to be a musical style beyond the Mints' grasp.

Delusions of Adequacy
At least two or three songs on the record are worthy of the New Pornographers for crunchy catchiness and the entire set is packaged with energy and hooks.

Under The Radar
While all is not completely lost, too many tracks seem to shoot for the kind of idiosyncratic wonderment that the band perfected on its first two albums, only to come out flaccid. [#13, p.89]
