Slightly Stoopid to perform sunset concert on Guam at Palace Hotel

Slightly Stoopid -- the California band that made a name for itself by fusing acoustic rock and blues with reggae, hip-hop and punk, will play live on Guam this weekend.

The concert is scheduled to start 3 p.m. Sunday on the grounds of the Palace Hotel in Tamuning. The show is expected to end before 7:30 p.m.

The band boasts two front men in Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald, who switch off between guitar, bass and vocals. Other band members include Ryan Moran on drums and Oguer Ocon on congas, other percussion, harp and vocals. They are most famous for their hit songs "Wiseman," "Fireshot," "Collie Man," and "Sweet Honey," which gets good airplay on Guam radio stations.

The band is coasting into its second decade of rock n' roll at the ages of 26- to 27 years-old. Fusing acoustic rock and blues with reggae, hip-hop, and punk, Slightly Stoopid have cemented a signature sound and created a legion of die-hard fans in the process -- called "Ese Locos" or "Stoopidheads -- that flock to more than 200 live shows every year.

Doughty explains the heavy tour schedule:

"It's all about the grass roots style. You've got to tough it out, got to get your hands dirty touring and making music," he says. "We have 100 percent creative control of what we do, and we've worked way too hard to have other people telling us how to do it. It's working, so we don't feel we need to change."

Slightly Stoopid's touring schedule typically has them locked into two-plus hours of improvisational jamming, five days a week. Along the way, they have supported such acts as The Marley Bros, Sublime, The Roots, G-Love and Special Sauce, Blink 182, Toots and The Maytals, N.E.R.D, Pennywise, and The Warped Tour.

Local acts Soul Vibrations and Nokea will be the concerts opening acts.

Tickets for the concert are $10 if purchased in advance and $15 at the door on the day of the concert. Tickets are available at the following Mobil stations: Y-sengsong, Airport, Maite, East Agana and Apra. Tickets are also available at Disc Location in Barrigada Heights and Navy MWR.
