There She Goes Again: Sixpence Singer Releasing Solo Album Tuesday February 28, 2006 @ 06:00 PM By: ChartAttack.com Staff
 Leigh Nash |
Leigh Nash, the former Sixpence None The Richer singer who's kept a relatively low profile since the group's last album in 2002, is embarking on a solo career.
Nash called on Canadian producer Pierre Marchand (Sarah McLachlan) to record her still untitled album last fall in Canada. Her 10-year marriage and the birth of her first child helped inspire the solo debut. "It's definitely been the period of most change of my life," she told RollingStone.com.
A few of the new tracks are "Between The Lines," "Nervous In The Light Of Dawn'' and a new favourite called "Along The Wall." "That's the first song that [Pierre and I] wrote together when we first met," said Nash.
"I like just the mood of it. It's very beautiful, piano-based, and I tend to like songs like that."
Nash and bandmate Matt Slocum decided to bid Sixpence farewell following the 2002 release of Divine Discontent. They formed the band as teenagers when they met at a church retreat in Austin, Texas and released four albums over the course of 13 years. The Christian pop-rock group remain best known for their hit, "Kiss Me."
Nash isn't a total newbie to the solo recording experience. She recorded "Need To Be Next to You" for the Bounce soundtrack in 2000 and has contributed vocals to albums by Los Straitjackets and Delerium.
Nash is looking forward to the release of her album this summer and to getting started on the next one.
"I'm already excited about making another record. Just the exploration of me as a writer has been an unbelievable experience, and I think it's just the beginning."
Nash has also been involved with Movement Nashville, a group of musicians including AutoVaughn, Jeremy Lister and Bang Bang Bang who want to promote the musical diversity of the country capital.
Nash will tour in support of the album following its release, but no dates have been announced.
