Idol host Ryan Seacrest and hometown hero Ruben Studdard were on hand. Seacrest taped a segment outside the convention center after 8 a.m. with thousands of screaming, sign-waving potential Idols.
Studdard wore a red shirt adorned with “205” -- Birmingham’s area code -– as he sang a musical welcome to the contestants inside.

What I would not give to have been there to see this in person. I can only imagine Ruben standing there with that beautiful infectious smile, singing a beautiful melody to welcome the idol hopefuls to Alabama. Ryan was in the house also, Birmingham is really pulling out the stops to show the idol PTB how much they apprecitate being chosen
