Royal Crown Revue Information
Royal Crown Revue
The 'Royal Crown Revue' is a band formed in the early 1990s. They play modern swing music styled after the 1940s big bands and the jump blues of the 1950s. They were one of the catalysts of the 1990s swing revival on America's west coast, based out of such nightclubs as The Brown Derby in Hollywood and the Ace Cafe and Club DeLuxe in San Francisco. Their song "Hey Pachuco" was featured in the movie The Mask, and is often heard in television commercials and movie trailers.
The band was founded by the Stern Brothers, Mark and Adam, from the remains of their earlier punk band Youth Brigade. The Sterns were forced out of their own band in the mid-90s which is now headed by singer Eddie Nichols and tenor saxophonist/arranger/writer Mando Dorame. The Sterns' involvement seems to have been erased from the band's official history due to a falling out after the release of the first record Kings of Gangster Bop.
The RCR Horn section backed Bette Midler on her 2004 U.S. tour.
