HARVEY Mayor announces Alex Martin Week
Mayor Eric Kellogg has proclaimed this Alex Martin Week in the city of Harvey. Martin is returning from the Ringside International World 2006 Boxing Tournament a champion. In addition, the mayor will ask Martin to be grand marshal in his annual Back To School Bag and Supply Giveaway Parade. Finally, Martin will be honored at Monday's City Council meeting. Martin, 17, attends Thornton High School, where he is an honor student. While he is not in school, he is at the Restoration Ministries Harvey Boxing Club.FLOSSMOOR District plans to final summer van trips The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District has spaces available for two of its final van trips for the summer. The first is a trip to Northwestern University’s campus in Evanston for the American Craft Exposition. Participants will first stop at Noyes Street Cafe for lunch on their own and then continue to the craft expo. The trip is from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. Aug. 25. The $40 fee includes van transportation, parking and admission to the expo. The second outing is to see Grammy award-winner Amy Grant at Ravinia in Highland Park on Aug. 31. The show is from 5 to 11:45 p.m. The $75 fee includes van transportation, parking and pavilion seating. Trips depart from and return to the Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave., Homewood. CROWN POINT Times seeks teens for roundtable discussion Are you a high school student? The Times is hoping you'll be a part of a roundtable discussion on school safety. The Times is looking for about 15 students to answer questions and share thoughts on high school safety and security. The forum will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 15 at The Times' Crown Point office, 2080 N. CHICAGO HEIGHTS College hosts student art, photography exhibit The Prairie State College Foundation presents the annual student exhibit and the 2006 Photographer of the Year Exhibit, featuring photographs by Lisa Marie Stevens, in the Christopher Art Gallery. The show begins Aug. 31 and runs through Sept. 21. An opening reception will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 31. Hours for the Christopher Art Gallery are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Visits also may be made by appointment. The annual student exhibit will feature selected works by PSC students in fine arts, photography and graphic communication. Included are paintings, drawings, digital images, mixed media, photography and sculpture.
