Saints Row's beats hit the streets

THQ reveals partial list of gangsta game's soundtrack; Ghostface Killah, Rhymefest, De La Soul, Jane's Addiction, Iggy Pop confirmed.

One clear influence on Saints Row is the Grand Theft Auto series. Both games share a similar thug mentality, offer carjacking with ease, and are filled to the rim with gratuitous violence. Now, the two share something else: several radio stations with licensed music.

A partial list of the artists and songs that will be featured in Saints Row, which will be released later this month on the Xbox 360, has been revealed. Among the names contributing original music are Rhymefest ("Shut You Down"), Ghostface Killah ("Man Up"), and Daz Dillinger ("Git Out My Way").

While executing drive-bys in hoopties, gamers will be able to choose from 12 radio stations, which span hip-hop, rock and roll, classical, and more. There will be 130 songs in total, including several exclusive tracks. Among the other artists confirmed for the game are De La Soul, Rich Medina, Clipse, Method Man, Masta Ace, Little Brother, Editors, Jane's Addiction, and Iggy Pop.

Below is a partial list of original songs featured on the Saints Row soundtrack.

Artist / Song

Strong Arm Steady / "Hurry, Hurry"
Ghostface Killah and Trife Da God / "Man Up"
Rhymefest / "Shut You Down"
David Banner / "Saints Row"
Daz Dillinger / "Git Out My Way"
Sy Smith / "Leave the Ho"
Sy Smith / "DFM Like I'm Your Wife"
Sy Smith / "Bounce Like My Checks"

I am a GTA fan. All that have tried to emulate GTA have failed miserably. I am going to buy Saints Row, but nothing will ever compare to GTA. Obviously it looks better and the gameplay may look nice but has anyone realized that this is a next gen-console game? I think y'all are going to have to compare when the next GTA comes out next year. Plus no GTA lookalike has ever had chatterbox and Lazlo!!!

Damn, I wish they had a Metal/Hard Rock station soooooooo bad. (At least a Rock station with semi-digestable music...unlike Vice City's 80's crap or GTA3's Rock stations. (San Andreas was pretty good, tho)

Just put some Killswitch Engage, Rage Against The Machine, Pearl Jam, Korn (their older stuff), pre '92 Metallica, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and a bunch of newer stuff (like Cold) ('Happens All The Time' pre-loaded song on the 360, for those who don't know them) and you'll have one happy camper.

Jake, I think it's because most of the "artists" sound like cocky punks I would never want anything to do with in real life. If I wouldn't want to meet or talk to him, I certainly don't want to listen to his sorry excuse for music either.

Why do people always gotta bash rap al tha damn time? I love rap ever since i was little and I never really took much mind to rock and stuff. But metal sounds ok..some people..some songs..and rock can be cool sometimes which why do some rock people gotta HATE rap so much? Because its artistic and rhymes? I know some of those rappers are on the edge of bankruptcy but give em a break...its been a while. And as for the up and coming artist, yea, they can be good sometimes but what is most wrong is that not many rap fans complain about rock or what not...they jsut dont prefer to listen it and go on with our lives

i agree with vega thagreat. your xbox can play what you want, when you want. if you don't want to listen rap, then you can play your own stuff. this game is similiar to grand theft auto however, the physics and graphics that were in the demo were MUCH better than any gta game. granted the system is better but gta hasn't really been known for its graphics. plus, ragdoll effects are freakin sweet.

For u who are complaining about the songs, this is the reason your Xbox 360 plays the songs u want when u want. no one is telling u that u have to listen to "rap" or anything else, just turn the music off if it bothers u or play your own music...i honestly dont see why everyone has to complain about something.

As far as I know Saints' Row could have a solid FIRST FREE ROAM NEXT-GEN. If the bugs from the demo are minimized in the final release then it should be a solid game. Simply the cast of characters should tell you that it's a prof\essionally made game. You will not be disappointed with this one.

Wow I just played the demo, very unoriginal and it tries too hard to be a GTA clone. I'll stick to my GTA games, thank you.

trep... I don't know if you noticed, but Jane's Addiction is in that list, and they're more certainly not gangsta. Granted, most of the tracks will probably be hip/hop & rap, I'm sure they won't be offering something to the rock fans to listen to. I personally enjoy both types of music, so either way, I'll be happy.

Some of us don't want to listen to rap the entire time...

Where's metal, rock, and things of that nature...for Christ's sake, put something else besides hip hop and rap in a game.

yeah CJ may be "the only thing missing" for this to not be GTA, but let me ask you how many load times there are in GTA, how customizable is your character/ride/clothing and so forth, and how good is the voice acting in GTA is it better than this game? Here are the answers more load times in GTA, not customizable at all hence "CJ" and the first thing I notice about the Saints Row Demo was that it had good voice acting...much better than GTA's. Plus I like the way the cars explode and debris shoots everywhere it's alot more fun with huge explosions.

judgenxecutioner:

It is worth noting that while San Andreas came out before Saints Row, Saints Row was in development before hand. Saints Row developers decided to push ahead with the game, thinking it could stand on it's own, even though a similar title had already been designed.

It's a harsh coincidence, but they just both happened to come up witht he same idea at the same time.

Right, I forgot that video games are supposed to save the world and find the cure to AIDS. LOL. Funny how some of the self-serving, combats/explosives-loving gamers are suddenly questioning morality of video games...

Guys, it's not all rap, I'm sure there's going to be other music you can enjoy too. Thought personally I'm not a fan of Rap, as long as there's something to listen to I'll be happy (GTA:SA's music selection was crap except for the talk radio)
