The cello-rock trio Rasputina usually look to the past for inspiration, but for their latest album, Oh Perilous World!, they needed to look no further than current events. The group's sixth studio album, due out June 26 on their own Filthy Bonnet label, will feature front woman Melora Creager's undoubtedly peculiar takes on Osama Bin Laden, African child soldiers and the destruction of the Iraqi city of Fallujah. Oh, and a narrative about Mary Todd Lincoln, as well. You didn't think it would all be ripped from today's headlines, did you?
Rasputina will also be taking their corseted chamber rock on the road this summer, hitting 27 cities across the U.S. in July and August. Texas freak-folkie Jana Hunter will open the first nine shows, and My Brightest Diamond's Shara Worden will join the mad cellists as a solo opener starting July 19 in San Francisco.
