With a solo album on the way and his bandmates going back to their Rage Against the Machine roots, the time is right for Chris Cornell to make it official: He is no longer part of Audioslave, the group he formed with Rage's Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk in 2001.

"Due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences, I am permanently leaving the band Audioslave," Cornell said in a statement. "I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors."

Cornell's solo album, his first since forming Audioslave, will be called Carry On, and is due out May 1st on Suretone/Interscope. Meanwhile, his former bandmates will be reuniting with Rage frontman Zack de la Rocha for what they say will be a single performance at the Coachella Festival in late April.
