Producer RJD2 and rapper Blueprint have teamed up to create
Soul Position, whose album "Things Are Better With RJ and Al," hit stores yesterday. Both artists are Columbus natives and legitimate individual artists in their own right. RJD2 is renowned for his instrumental hip-hop work and has worked with plenty of other artists. Blueprint is one of the greatest rappers to ever come from Columbus and has received previous acclaim for his work in the group Greenhouse Effect. The album displays the funky and incredibly catchy hooks of RJD2's beats and the ever-so-clever and thought-provoking rhymes of Blueprint. The album questions the situation of the game today and tries to provide an alternative to the typical rap album. The intelligent collaboration should make any true hip-hop fan beam with delight and make every Columbus citizen smile with pride. The duo will be performing at Little Brother's in the Short North District on Friday.
Just when you got the Gorillaz hit, "Feel Good Inc.," out of your head, acclaimed producer Danger Mouse is back at it again. This time around he's teamed up with rapper Cee-Lo to create
Gnarls Barkley, a duo that has already made history in the UK with its first single "Crazy." The funky and soulful single went to No. 1 on the pop charts based entirely on digital downloads - take that, RIAA! The pair's debut album, "St. Elsewhere," is set to hit stores in early May.
If you can't get enough of The Killers, Interpol or the 6,000 bands that sound exactly like them, then The Newport Music Hall is the place to be tonight. Brooklyn new-wavers
stellastarr* will be bringing their quirky blend of unhinged vocals and slick post-punk grooves to the stage with the support of Editors, the hottest new post-punk band from across the pond.
If malnourished hipsters dressed like Nazis isn't your thing, don't worry - Austin, Texas based stoner-metal outfit
The Sword will be rocking the High Five tonight as well. Imagine Black Sabbath with a penchant for Dungeons and Dragons instead of demons and virgin sacrifice. Make sure to do plenty of neck exercises before you go, because the headbanging at this show will be extremely intense.
