'Otep' is a Los Angeles female-fronted nu metal/ rapcore band. Witnessing a brief live performance impressed Sharon Osbourne enough for Otep to land a spot on Ozzfest before signing onto a label. Lead singer Otep Shamaya is one of the few frontwomen to apply death grunting.
Despite few musical similiarities, their name has sometimes been mistaken with Opeth, the Swedish progressive metal/death metal band.
