Notwist Information

The 'Notwist' is a German indie rock band, but they have been very strongly influenced by the electronica scene with the other groups of Morr Music. History The group was formed in Weilheim, near Munich, in 1989 with this line-up: Markus Acher (Guitar, Vocals), Michael Acher (Bass), and Mecki Messerschmidt (Drums). Martin Gretschmann (aka Console) joined the group in 1997. In 1990 they recorded their self-titled debut, a grunge-metal orientated LP. Their second album, 'Nook', released in 1992 is the group's first indie-rock record that is followed by '12' which contains their first small flirtation with electronics. 'Shrink', released in 1998 is a jazz-electro-rock album, that in some ways anticipates Radiohead's Amnesiac. Their album, 'Neon Golden' (released in 2002) put them on the map for American listeners, with its heartfelt sentiment and catchy tunes. The group has been remixed by Four Tet, Manitoba, Console, Loopspool, and others. Singer Markus Acher collaborated with Anticon rapper/producer Alias on the song "Unseen Sights," an effort, that while not considered to be among either artist's best work, shows a surprising musical breadth for both artists. Now the Notwist have formed a supergroup with Themselves named 13 & God, whose eponymous debut ('13 & God') was released in 2005.
