Rapper Family Wins $1m Payout

The family of a murdered rap superstar have won a $1.1m (£630,000) payout from a city council. Authorities in Los Angeles have agreed to compensate the family of Notorious BIG for police errors in a wrongful death case brought by his relatives. The council was to appeal against an earlier court ruling in favour of the family but was told it was unlikely to succeed.

District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper reprimanded the city after hearing a detective withheld documents related to claims

filed by the musician's family.

Notorious BIG, whose real name was Christopher Wallace, was shot and killed in March 1997 after the Soul Train Awards ceremony in LA.

The murder has not been solved.

The court heard claims that a corrupt LAPD officer arranged to have the star killed at the behest of Death Row Records founder Marion "Suge" Knight.

It was claimed that LAPD officials covered up the officer's involvement.

Knight has denied involvement.

A retrial of the wrongful death case is expected later this year.
