TUCSON, Ariz. Getting down to the nitty gritty in Tombstone.

A group of business owners has filed a one and a quarter (m) million dollar claim for damages against Tombstone and its mayor over dirt on the main drag.

Mayor Andree DeJournett covered the street in dirt earlier in the year without City Council approval.

He says the dirt makes the town look more authentic and has also been popular among tourists.

However, several Allen Street business owners complained of dust.

To appease them, DeJournett covered the dirt in oil in hopes of keeping the dust down.

But then tourists tracked the grimy substance into the Allen Street stores.

Calling it the "real West," DeJournett says the dirt belongs on Tombstone's streets and he has no plans to remove it.
