The catalog includes hits like Diana Ross & the Supremes' "Where Did Our Love Go," "Stop in the Name of Love" and "You Can't Hurry Love"; Marvin Gaye's "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)"; and the Four Tops' "Baby I Need Your Loving."
Primary Wave now touts about 6,000 titles from artists including Maurice White and Hall & Oates.
The company is primarily interested in "songs that have proven to be historically consistent, amazing songs that are soundtracks of people's lives," said Larry Mestel, one of the company's five founding partners and former chief operating officer and general manager of Virgin Records.
"We really want songs and writers that are at the absolute top end of each genre of music," Mestel said.
