Nick Cannon Proposes a Duet

Los Angeles (E! Online) - The artist behind "My Wife" and "She's Mine" is planning to put his feet where the aisle is. 

After a few months of playing coy,

Nick Cannon is now engaged to Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks, the actor-singer's rep confirmed to E! Online. The couple met this year at a Super Bowl party in Miami and the marriage rumors started shortly afterward. 

Cannon had no qualms about making the moment a public affair, getting down on one knee Monday night, immediately after the couple had left the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Gala, and presenting Ebanks with a 12-carat sparkler while the MTV JumboTron in New York's Times Square flashed the question, "Selita will you marry me?" 

After the bride-to-be, who told E! News in February that she's "never been happier," answered in the affirmative, she and Cannon headed over to the Manhattan hotspot Butter to share champagne and Evian toasts with family and close friends whom Cannon had flown in special for the occasion.  

Some of the more tabloid-friendly faces on hand to celebrate included

Zach Braff, Young Jeezy, Tommy Hilfiger and celebrity bling purveyor Jacob the Jeweler. 

Cannon, 26, who in the past has been linked to Kim Kardashian and

Christina Milian, among others, recently finished shooting an update of

George A. Romero's Day of the Dead, costarring

Ving Rhames and

Mena Suvari. His sophomore album, Stages, is also due out sometime this year.  

Up next for Cannon is the indie flick American Son, which he's currently shooting in Los Angeles, according to his rep, prompting his 3 a.m. departure from New York via private plane earlier today.  

The Cayman Islands-born Ebanks first slipped into Angel-wear in 2005, making her catwalk debut at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. She also appeared in the video for the Pharell-featuring-Kanye West tune "Number 1."
