Dane Bowers from Another Level, Lee Latchford-Evans from Steps, Bradley McIntosh from S Club 7, Jimmy Constable from 911 and Danny Wood from New Kids On The Block are hoping to resurrect their music careers.
The pop has-beens were brought together by MTV for new reality show Totally Boyband.
The series will follow their attempts to make a chart comeback.
Between them they have sold 87 million records, had 11 number one hits and 40 top ten singles.
Jimmy said: "Everybody has learned a lot about the music business so we all know what we are facing.
"Hopefully we will have some great songs, some hit singles and some fun along the way."
Danny is the eldest of the group at 37. Youngest is Bradley at a mere 24.
Dane is confident the project will succeed.
"I don`t see how it can turn out to be embarrassing for us because we`re just doing what we do," he said.
In their heyday, the five were greeted by screaming fans around the globe.
But now they struggle to be recognised, even by each other.
Their identities had been kept secret from one another until today when they met at a press conference in central London.
Danny, the only American in the line-up, admitted he had never heard of the other four.
"Until today I didn`t know who was going to be in the band.
"I still don`t really know," he said, looking at the others with an expression of bemusement.
The show, tagline "They had it.... They lost it.... They want it back!", begins on MTV in September.
Their first single will be released on October 23.
The band, who have yet to decide a name, will be managed by Jonathan Shalit, the man who masterminded the careers of Charlotte Church and Jamelia.
