August was a brutal month indeed for extreme metal guitarists. First, Dissection founder Jon Nöodveidt took his own life in Stockholm. Then came word that Terrorizer/Lock Up guitarist Jesse Pintado , ex-of Napalm Death , had died at a hospital in Holland, apparently from complications with diabetes.

Napalm Death haben alle Songs für das neue Album "Smear Campaign" im Kasten, welches die britischen Grindcore-Pioniere am 18. September über Century Media auf die Welt loslassen wollen. On the eve of the final date of their Enemy of God Pt. 2tour, German metal veterans Kreator headline at Tremont today (7 p.m., $16-$18). The four-band bill is an international death-metal fest of sorts. Their English peers Napalm Death, Montreal's A Perfect Murder and Raleigh-based vegan hardcore band Undying share the bill.

Maybe bands like Napalm Death could use surtitles like the opera - a running scroll of lyrics in flaming red letters would be nice - so fans won't miss any of the messages behind the unrelenting barrage of raging heavy metal with singers who sound like demons from the deepest gravel pits of hell.
