The sexy singer ain't no fat-bottomed girl, but she does a great Ella Fitzgerald.

Just a few listens to Morningwood's debut will tell you that singer Chantal Claret isn't shy about much. There's a sexual charge to her kinda glam, kinda punk sneer. "When I see you baby, I want to

take off your clothes, just rip off your clothes," she pants in a sex-starved yelp. Throughout the disc, the band's guitars and keyboards leer behind her. Don't go down a dark alley with this one. You'll never know what hit you.

Another arena where Claret puts out performance-wise is karaoke. She's a person who "brings it" when it comes to grabbing a mic and kicking some classic rock. During a recent chat the 23-year-old New Yorker took a sec to detail five of her fave karaoke tunes.

Queen
"Bohemian Rhapsody"

It really showcases my vocal talents. I can sing all the parts. I need to perform whatever song I choose. I believed that even before I was a musician. If you're singing someone else's song, you have to really put out. I get more nervous for karaoke nights than I do before a Morningwood show. Basically, you've gotta bring it or it's worth nothing. I did "Bohemian Rhapsody" the first time I ever performed karaoke and the screen went dead. But I finished it off the cuff, and even threw in an air guitar solo. I have a versatile voice, so it's easy. The best part of the song is the beginning and the end. "Mama, I killed a man..."

Ella Fitzgerald
"A Tisket a Tasket"

I've only been to two clubs that have it in their library, but when I get it, I kill it. Pedro [Yanowitz, Morningwood's bassist] and I did it at a Holiday Inn in upstate New York, and there were all these Vietnam veterans there. They thought, like, Here's this little girl who's going to try her hand at this, and by the end it was, Ho-lee shit! They asked me to play the Nam Jam, which is like the Vietnam vets jamboree. They said, "Wow, you're amazing. Come play with your real band." I'm not a big scatter; it sounds weird when a little white girl scats. But I do Ella's little warble-vibrato thing. I really sound like Ella when I do.

Queen
"Fat Bottom Girls"

More Queen. It's so fun. I'm a classic-rock girl. I love the harmony on the first part--it's fun to do with a friend. I also like to do Alice Cooper's "Be My Lover." Everyone's always studying the book at karaoke, right? This is a song that will get you outta the book and rocking. Same thing with Motorhead's "Rock 'n' Roll." And Tag Team's "Whoomp, There It Is." Morningwood is doing an acoustic version of that song.

AC/DC
"Riff Raff"

It's a screamer. The trick with karaoke is in the performance. Even a guy who can't sing can get over with a good performance. And a guy who can sing, but doesn't do much on stage, probably won't rank too high. If you combine both, you're a karaoke champion. People think audiences want to hear ballads but it never works. People want to see action; they're getting drunk and rowdy. AC/DC let's you rock out.

The Ronettes
"Be My Baby"

The first time I ever performed in my life I did glorified karaoke at a high-school talent show. There was only one mic and it was hard--basically impossible--to share it with my backing singers for the "Be My Baby" chorus. So the song starts up, the chorus comes around, and I hear it echoing all over the place. Who the hell is singing? I thought. And it was the entire audience singing. First time out! It felt great.
