Loose Ends: Marr Joins Modest Mouse, Expanded Powter Album And Faithfull Has Cancer Thursday September 14, 2006 @ 07:30 PM By: ChartAttack.com Staff

Modest Mouse have teamed up with former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr on their forthcoming Epic album, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, that's scheduled for a December 19 release. Marr joined the band as a full-time member to record the follow-up to the group's 2004 breakthrough disc, Good News For People Who Love Bad News, at Sweet Tea Studios in Oxford, Mississippi.
Canadian singer Daniel Powter will release a CD/DVD version of his self-titled Warner Bros. debut on November 7 that will include a number of new songs, including the single "Love You Lately." The CD will also feature a live version of his huge hit "Bad Day" as well as live takes on "Free Loop" and "Song 6." The DVD will offer videos for "Bad Day," "Jimmy Gets High," "Free Loop" and "Lie To Me," as well as concert footage and an eight-song live performance taped in Los Angeles.
For the amount that singer Marianne Faithfull smokes, news that she's been diagnosed with lung cancer wouldn't be too surprising. But the raspy-voiced, 59-year-old former girlfriend of Mick Jagger has instead been stricken with breast cancer. The disease was caught in its early stages, which greatly enhances her chances of making a full recovery. Faithfull was scheduled to begin a world tour next month, but she's postponed the trek until next year to allow her to combat her illness.
Bedouin Soundclash and Muhtadi will perform for free at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Toronto's Ramsden Park as part of the Global Day For Darfur activities that are being organized around the world to show support for the victims of violence in Sudan. Justin Trudeau, the son of late prime minister Pierre Trudeau, will emcee the Toronto event. Senator Romeo Dallaire and Darfur refugee Tragi Mustafa will be guest speakers.
Sony BMG has agreed to settle the Canadian class actions brought against it in relation to its implementation of controversial digital rights management software on its CDs in an effort to curb piracy. If you want to make a claim, go here for more information.
