No, this isn’t Doug commenting on his favorite snacks at Bud Light Downtown Live. These are lyrics from this Saturday’s amazing line-up.
Much like the Bud Light Downtown Live 2006 concert series, Saturday’s headliner, Big Head Todd & The Monsters defy categories or genres. They are rock and roll in the broadest sense. They combine blues, country, R&B, soul, rock alternative and everything in between.

The bands original members have stayed together since their beginning in the mid-80’s. They are truly a “band” in every sense of the word, rare in today’s world of short-lived collaborations. Big Head Todd & The Monsters will be performing some of their fan favorites “Bittersweet”, “Broken Hearted Savior”, and “Circle”.
Taking the stage before them is Vanguard recording artist Carbon Leaf, a Virginia based touring monster playing over 150 shows a year. This is an incredible band and as my co-worker Amy put it when asked to comment on the band, “The lead singer’s really cute!” So get out early ladies.
Before them is John Wozniak with his band. Unless you haven’t turned on a radio station in the past ten years, you know John from his hit “Sex and Candy” from his band Marcy Playground. “Sex and Candy” is one of the most played radio singles of the past decade.
Also be sure to come out early to hear the Atlanta based band 13 Stories with their Ford commercial hit “Beep Beep” which was also played quite a bit at the RBC Center during the Hurricanes games. Ryan Montbleau is on before 13 Stories.
Now here’s the thing; Bud Light Downtown Live starts at 2pm and I would highly recommend getting out there at 2 for the opener GrassStreet. GrassStreet is a traditional bluegrass band that I would consider to be one of the best in the region.
And remember, Bud Light Downtown Live is a rain or shine event. We’ll be there rocking out either way. See you Saturday…
Doug Grissom says:
Double cherry pie? Now you’ve made me hungry, Dave. Actually, working the Bud Light Downtown Live series would make any one ready for more fuel. This is a major series by any standard. Since things kicked off, all the bands we’ve been talking about I know or want to know.
Then I think about the fact that we just had the Stanley Cup parading down our streets, and the coming of the new convention center, and all the new restaurants and nightspots opening, and I realize – Raleigh really does rock! So, get down to Moore Square on Saturday and be part of it. And please pass the pie.
