Colombia Sin Minas
Updated 01:41 PST Tue, Mar 28 2006

Singer and social activist Juanes has organized the Colombia Sin Minas (Colombia Without Mines) Concert, featuring a number of Latin America's most famed artists.
Alejandro Sanz, Ana Gabriel, Carlos Vives, Juan Luis Guerra, Laura Pausini, Luis Fonsi and Ricardo Montaner are all on the bill for the show, set to take place May 24 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles.
The aim of the concert is to raise money for children victimized by antipersonnel mines in Colombia. More than 4,500 Colombians have been killed by mines in the last 15 years, many of them children, according to organizers.
The concert will directly benefit 500 young mine victims in need of prosthetic limbs.
All of the musicians, including headliner Juanes, will perform with only acoustic guitar and piano. The reduced production costs of the stripped-down format will help maximize the amount of funds going to charity, organizers said.
"Many people, including the media, are not reporting on the seriousness of this problem in Colombia where an average of three people now die each day as a result of these deadly mines," Juanes said.
"I am very thankful to all the artists that have accepted my invitation for this event that will help many victims, especially the 500 children that have been mutilated by the mines and are in need of prosthetics. By performing at this show, these artists will be able to permanently help the victims."
