JOJO'S JOURNAL

Editor's note: On Feb. 20, Lifestyle reporter Jojo Santo Tomas began a body cleansing program called "The 21-Day Detox: The Simple Cleanse." He is tracking his progress through a weekday online journal and welcomes your comments, suggestions and questions. E-mail him at santotomas@guampdn.com.

Day 18 -- 4 days left

Thursday, March 9, 4 p.m.

Yesterday's meals: Wanna guess?

Mood: Jumped out of bed, ready to take on the day. Slightly sleepy at lunchtime but I hadn't had my Energy Soup yet. Felt better after drinking my lunch.

Energy: Still maintaining a 7 out of 10 level.

With only hours to go until chow time, I'm definitely looking forward to the weekend and beyond, when I'll be able to eat whatever I want.

But honestly, these last couple of days haven't been so bad. I'm so used to blending by now that meals have become routine. I've stopped trying to add different flavors to make it taste better and have simply resigned myself to just drinking the stuff and moving on.

I do miss cooking and all the other jobs that come with it, such as chopping vegetables (and meat), cleaning up afterward and relaxing while patting a full belly. Believe me, I've done nothing of the sort for the last two and a half weeks.

My lovely wife Rebecca and I have decided to keep one part of the program and incorporate it into our post-detox lives. The morning smoothie stays. Fresh and frozen fruit, as well as nuts and soy milk aren't cheap, so we expect to be spending a little more on a regular basis -- but as I remind myself every day, I've only got one body to take care of.

I won't spend too much time on this journal as I already have a story on the hard-copy version of the newspaper, so check that out if you haven't already.

More tomorrow and then on Tuesday, I'll have a final journal to tell you what I ate on my first day back to the civilized world!
