'Jean Grae' (real name Tsidi Ibrahim) is a female MC and writer. She was born in Cape Town, South Africa and was the daughter of two jazz musicians, her father the celebrated Abdullah Ibrahim. As a vocal major, she attended the High School of Performing Arts and subsequently attended New York University as a Music Business major. Jean Grae later became part of a rap group called Natural Resource and released the 12" single, "Negro League Baseball", which became an underground hip-hop classic. Natural Resource broke up in 1998, changing Jean Grae's pseudonym from What? What? to her current Jean Grae moniker. She has released 2 LPs and 1 EP since and has appeared on numerous cuts by artists such as Herbaliser, Da Beatminerz, Mr. Len, Masta Ace, and Immortal Technique.
