American singer Jason Mraz says his infectious hit The Remedy means he will be able to work for the rest of his life.

"It was a good foot in the door then and now I guess because I am still working," Mraz said of the catchy pop song, which was a hit in 2003.

"It helped us go travel all around the world several times.

"I guess any musician or songwriter would want to have something like that because now I can work the rest of my life."

It has been three years since Mraz released his debut album, Waiting For My Rocket To Come, which featured The Remedy.

Mraz's second album, Mr A.Z, was released in the US in July 2005, earning the singer a Grammy nomination.

It has taken almost a year for the album to be released in Australia and Mraz said in Sydney on Friday that he was hoping it could have come out sooner.

"It was unfortunate but that is just the way it turned out," said Mraz, who describes his music as "hip-pop".

"I spent too much time on the road after the first album then we had to wait for record company timing.

"It is just a bunch of timing and scheduling that is really the problem."

In those three years, Mraz was constantly touring and working on new material.

"I never have time off," he said.

"I take time off of the road to write and record then I get back on the road again."

The 28-year-old is playing smaller gigs in Sydney and Melbourne this week and is hoping to come back to Australia with a larger national tour.

"I can't say when, I can only keep my fingers crossed," he said.
