Isobel Campbell Information
Isobel Campbell
'Isobel Campbell' is a Scottish singer and composer of the 'twee' music movement.
Isobel was a member of the band Belle & Sebastian from their formation in Glasgow in 1996, until 2002, when she departed the band for personal reasons. Isobel played cello with the band, and sang backing vocals. One of her own compositions, "Is it Wicked Not to Care?", which she also sang, was included on Belle & Sebastian's third album, The Boy with the Arab Strap. She sang other songs with the band, and co-wrote their single "Legal Man".
Isobel released the first album by her solo project, The Gentle Waves, in 1999 . The Green Fields of Foreverland was released on Jeepster Records. In 2002, Isobel worked with Scottish jazz musician Bill Wells on a collection of obscure Billie Holliday songs, which was released by Creeping Bent.
In 2003 the singer released Amorino, her first album under her own name, to rave critical reviews. Bill Wells features again, along with other jazz musicians. Isobel is currently working on two albums simultaneously. She is best known for her single Time is Just the Same
