'Ima Robot' is a rock band based in Los Angeles that formed in the 1990's. The band's vocalist, Alex Ebert, originally wanted to be a rapper before becoming a singer. The band's other original members were Timmy the Terror, Oligee, Justin Meldal-Johnson, and Joey Waronker. Meldal-Johnson and Waronker were sought after musicians who had played with Beck before joining Ima Robot. The band had tough times and money issues before they signed a record deal with Virgin Records. Their first full length album was self-titled Ima Robot and featured the single "Dynomite". The band has toured with Hot Hot Heat. Joey Waronker and Oligee have since left the band.
