The Halifax Pop Explosion will return for a 14th year with performances by more than 100 acts at 19 venues across the city from October 17-21.
The first round of artists have been confirmed, and the festival lineup includes The Weakerthans, Cadence Weapon, The Bicycles, Jon Rae And The River, Pony Up, Julie Doiron, Christine Fellows, Great Lake Swimmers, Maximum RnR, Eugene Ripper, Fucked Up, The Sourkeys, Geoff Berner, Barmitzvah Brothers, Raising The Fawn, We Are Wolves and three European bands: Scotland's PMX; Sweden's Randy; and The Netherlands' The Spades.
Artists from the region slated to perform include Joel Plaskett, A/V, Be Bad, Die Brucke, Hope, Risky Business, Spesh K, Shotgun And Jaybird, The Beginners, The Stance, The Superfantastics and Windom Earle.
"This year's lineup offers a vast array of talent from a series of diverse genres," says event organizer Waye Mason. "The Halifax Pop Explosion has always prided itself on bringing the best in emerging music to Halifax and, with this year's exciting roster of local, national and international acts, I am confident we have done that again."
The festival will also encompass the Independent Music And Art Fair, which will include a zine fair, photo and graphic design exhibits, a presentation by author Hal Niedzviecki, screenings of media arts pieces and afternoon performances by Dollarama and Garbage! Violence! Enthusiasm!
The Music Matters Conference, taking place on October 20 and 21, will be comprised of a series of workshops and panels focused on two separate streams: business and artistic.
