Galaxie 500 Information

'Galaxie 500' was a seminal guitar band from the late 1980s who were heavily influenced by the late Velvet Underground. Galaxie 500 leveraged fairly minimal instrumental technique with intense atmospherics, provided by producer Kramer, and their distinctive sound bore an influence beyond the small audience for their independently released albums. The name comes from a Ford car of the 1960s, the Ford Galaxie 500. They enjoyed underground success in the United Kingdom on the Rough Trade label. After Rough Trade went bankrupt, Galaxie 500's back catalgoue was reissued by Ryko.
Guitarist and singer Dean Wareham went on to found the band Luna during the 1990s and released a string of critically well-received albums. Drummer Damon Krukowski and bassist Naomi Yang continued to record under the moniker Damon & Naomi, and additionally began the avant-garde press Exact Change.
