Future Leaders of the World Information

A post-grunge band. Their first release was the 2004 album LVL IV, pronounced Level Four. The album was produced by GGGarth (L7, Rage Against the Machine, Chevelle, Rise Against, and Mudvayne), co-produced by Mike Flynn and mixed by Andy Wallace and Michael Barbiero. Their first single, Let Me Out, received extensive radio play and propelled them into the spotlight. The band has been compared usually to Rage Against the Machine in terms of both material and the lead singers' tendency to rap, however this is obviously an erroneous comparison, as all but one of Rage Against the Machine's songs feature all rapping and no singing, while all Future Leaders of the World songs feature mostly singing with brief lines of rapping. It has also been compared to Nirvana. During 2004 the band played many festivals and clubs to help promote the album.
History
After graduating high school in Buffalo, NY, Phil Tayler moved to San Francisco, CA. His plans were to attend college, while living with a relative. However, he was kicked out and had to regroup. He was forced to work full-time, take college classes, and live with various friends. While at a Puddle of Mudd (P.O.D.) concert, Tayler bumped into Mike Flynn, who later became the manager for Future Leaders of the World.
Flynn enabled Tayler to record a three-song demo. Tayler then returned to Buffalo, NY. Here, he was able to assemble a band. Carl Messina was chosen as the drummer, and Bill Hershey was picked as the bassist. The trio drove cross-country to record its demo in Los Angeles. After completing the demo, the band asked Jake Stutevoss (a worker at the studio) to join their band. They now had a full band. Epic Records signed Future Leaders of the World in 2003 and the quartet began writing and rehearsing songs destined for LVL IV. The album was made somewhat popular in 2004 via festivals, clubs, and radio. Touring continued in 2005 with an appearance on the Sno-Core Tour with Chevelle. In the spring/summer of 2005, tensions due to Tayler's continuous friction and "bridge-burning" with many of the industry's top executives, managers and promoters came to a head, leading Hershey, Messina and Stutevoss to all quit Future Leaders of the World. Tayler continues to attempt to reform Future Leaders of the World with new members, although many critics have stated that this is futile due to Tayler being reportedly "blacklisted" by the top of the music industry. Tayler has now reformed Future Leaders Of The World with John LeCompt (guitarist) and Rocky Gray (drummer) of the band Evanescence. They are currently recording new songs.
