Fall is Upon Us
October Fall Prepare for Major-Label Debut
by Robert Frezza Buffalo, NY |
 |
Pat D'Andrea is the lead singer for October Fall, a Chicago based band influenced by rockers Third Eye Blind, Eve 6, and their hometown heroes, Fall Out Boy. The piano-based rock group has already landed a deal with Atlantic Records and is now opening for the All American Rejects and Fall Out Boy as we speak.
Crazewire: October Fall's sound seems like a cross between Simple Plan and Fall Out Boy. How would you describe your sound?
Pat D'Andrea: It is very melodically driven and piano influenced. We are influenced by artists like Tom Petty to Billy Joel to the more-recent Something Corporate and Jimmy Eat World.
You list Eve 6 and Third Eye Blind as some of your influences as well.
Those were huge for us. We grew up on those bands. Lyrically, Eve 6 is a straighter forward of a band, kind of a more of a story telling type of songs that I personally love.
What is in your CD player right now?
We are rocking out to the All American Rejects right now.
Being from Chicago, how did you end up hooking up with Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy?
I would go to their local concerts and I was a huge Fall Out Boy fan. Pete and I had already established an early relationship with things. He looked out for us a little bit and kept an eye on our band. When he felt the time was right, he dropped our name at his Fueled By Ramen record label and that is how we got signed.
You have been on tour with Ashlee Simpson and the Click Five. How do you feel opening for them versus opening up for your peers, Fall Out Boy?
Well, it was amazing for us. The reason we did that was to throw people off a bit. We don't want just want to be playing to the same genre of people all the time. We would like to tour with a variety of people.
How was it working with producer Mike Green?
He just knew the element of music and opens things up for you. He was amazing to work with and we would really like to work with him on our next record as well.
You said and I quote, "I'd sit in class, knowing that this is what I was going to do. I just needed to figure out how to get there." Has your dream come true now?
Ever since I was in high school, it has been a dream of ours. We knew it was going to happen; we just had to work hard at it. Every night connecting with the fans is the biggest thing.
