ANNIE LENNOX
EURYTHMICS star ANNIE LENNOX is lending her support to Oxfam's new charity initiative, in a bid to inspire fans to continue with the campaign to make poverty history. The SWEET DREAMS singer was overwhelmed by the public response to last year's (05) Live 8 charity extravaganza, but is keen to ensure the true focus of the nine simultaneous concerts isn't forgotten. She says, "2005 saw huge public support for ending global poverty and I was proud to be part of that movement and take part in the Live 8 gig in Edinburgh on the eve of the G8. "However, such is the scale and depth of poverty in many parts of the world that it won't be ended overnight. "That is why if, like me, you want to see an end to poverty, you need to be in it for the long haul." The Scots star is especially keen to take part in the event, because it will see Oxfam laser beam the names of those who have pledged support to their 'I'm In' petition onto the Royal Scottish Academy headquarters in Edinburgh. The charity's ADRIAN LOVETT adds, "Oxfam's campaign is a way to continue the spirit and determination showed by millions of people last year that poverty must come to an end. "There are lots of ways people can play their part - and the first step is to say, 'I'm in.'"
