Yesterday, the Shortlist Music Prize announced the 61 nominees for this year's award; the list of potential winners includes Editors, Hot Chip, and Lupe Fiasco, among others. The Shortlist Music Prize is an annual award given to a worthy album released in the U.S. that has not yet sold 500,000 copies, and is chosen by a panel of musicians, journalists, and producers. Historically, the nominations have tended to steer toward recognizing alternative (or "indie") acts like previous winners Sigur Ros and N.E.R.D.
This year's judges panel includes Sufjan Stevens (the 2005 winner), Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, and KT Tunstall. See the complete list of panelists and nominees on the Shortlist website.
