Arrows level with Doves

First posted 04:58am (Mla time) Mar 09, 2006

Editor's Note: Published on page A20 of the March 9, 2006 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer

THE ARELLANO University Flaming Arrows thwarted the St. Francis of Assisi College Doves, 81-76, yesterday to force a deciding Game 3 for the 13th National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) men’s basketball tournament championship.

Alfie Martinez hit a layup with 15.7 seconds left, allowing the Flaming Arrows to stay out of trouble and even their series with the Doves at 1-1.

Martinez’s basket gave the Flaming Arrows a seven-point cushion at 80-73 and frustrated the Doves’ bid to clinch the crown outright via a 2-0 sweep.

Meanwhile, the Olivarez College Sea Lion Cubs weathered the Arellano Baby Arrows’ repeated attacks and came away with a 57-55 verdict which gave them the NCRAA junior crown.
