Support offered for violence victims

DOVES offers various support group sessions for victims of domestic violence. Support group sessions are held at the DOVES Outreach Center, 41943 Big Bear Blvd., Big Bear Lake.

The DOVES crisis hot line is (800) 851-7601.

Mondays: Domestic Violence 101 support group, noon to 1 p.m.

Tuesdays: Innocent Victims support group, noon to 1 p.m.

Wednesdays: Safety and Self Esteem support group, noon to 1 p.m.

Thursdays: New Beginnings support group, noon to 1 p.m.

Fridays: Domestic Violence Recovery open discussion, noon to 1 p.m.

LSS reaches out

Lutheran Social Services offers meetings to offer help to those in need.

The Wellness Group meets Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m. The group offers support to those suffering from chronic illness. The next meeting is Thursday, March 9. Call Marta Lubinsky for more information, (909) 866-5070.

Compassionate Friends meets Monday, March 13, at 6:30 p.m.

Also on Thursday, March 9, and March 17 the Lutheran Social Services free bread program is available.

Movie night returns

Flames of Faith Spiritual Center hosts a movie night Friday, March 10, 7 p.m. The featured movie is Ram Dass' “Fierce Grace.”

Ram Dass is known for his 1971 classic bestseller “Be Here Now,” a book which sparked a generation's quest for expanded consciousness and meaningful spirituality.

Against the vivid backdrop of a half-century of social, cultural, pharmaceutical and spiritual history, “Fierce Grace” is a portrait of a spiritual teacher who has reshaped his physical limitations into an act of fierce grace.

Suggested donation is $6 for adults. There will also be a movie shown for children in the children's center for a suggested donation of $3.

Flames of Faith Spiritual Center is at 41067 Big Bear Blvd., Big Bear Lake.

Crafty ladies

Women's Ministries of First Baptist Church of Big Bear is getting crafty. Craft Tuesdays are held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. The ladies make gift items for the church's annual autumn bazaar.

Craft Tuesdays are at 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. No experience is necessary, just bring a sack lunch and be willing to help with a variety of tasks.
