“We gotta head for higher ground, we can’t come back till the water comes down. Five feet high and risin’.”
Yeah, we just mixed a De La Soul reference with a Johnny Cash reference, but hey — at least we didn’t throw in They Might Be Giants. The Northeast part of our grand nation is still under water and it’s wreaking havoc on the road system, to say nothing of the thousands of families forced to evacuate. This section of I-88 in New York was knocked out yesterday, and scattered rain is predicted for today. Where’s a Gibbs Aquada when you really need one?

hmm... you typed North West twice, yet reference New York, and the linked article is about the North East, where all the flooding has been going on.

How high's the water, mama?
'Two feet high and rising'
How high's the water, papa?
'She said it's two feet high and rising
But we can make it to the road in a homemade boat
'Cause that's the only thing we got left that'll float
It's already over all the wheat and oats'
Two feet high and rising

How high's the water, mama?
'Three feet high and rising'
How high's the water, papa?
'She said it's three feet high and rising
Well, the hives are gone, I lost my bees
Chickens are sleepin' in the willow trees
Cows in water up past their knees'
Three feet high and rising

How high's the water, mama?
'Four feet high and rising'
How high's the water, papa?
'She said it's four feet high and rising
Hey, come look through the window pane
The bus is coming, gonna take us to the train
Looks like we'll be blessed with a little more rain'
Four feet high and rising

How high's the water, Mama?
'Five feet high and rising'
How high's the water, Papa?
'She said it's five feet high and rising
Well, the rails are washed out north of town
We gotta head for higher ground
We can't come back till the water goes down'
Five feet high and rising
Well, it's five feet high and rising

The city my college is in (Easton, PA) has had 3 floods which classify as "100 year floods" meaning they should only happen once every 100 years, in the last 2 years. It's on the Delaware river and all the towns up north of it dump their drainage water into the river when they get a lot of rain (they aren't supposed to, but they don't want their town flooding, so they just drain their stuff into the delaware) Anyway, all that extra water completely floods Easton. The water goes over a bridge that's normally 20 ft above the river height, and a large portion of the downtown area goes underwater. People actually kayak around town when it happens.

As a dude from Northwest NY, I have to say this is a tragedy, but that Binghamton smells like weird cheese and sulfur - maybe this will clear out whatever was causing the smell?

P.S. The actual Northwest was on fire this week - 103 in Portland - the hippies even said it was too hot to have a drum circle.

It's the magic number. Yes it is; it's a magic number.

The mad gaffes in this post have been repaired. Meanwhile, I totally wanna kayak around the flooded Northwest in hundred-degree heat.
