DJ Clue? Clue Vinci Code

July 5, 2006

If DJ Clue is the official “career maker/breaker,” then his latest mixtape, Clue Vinci Code, must be his weapon of choice.

As expected, the iconic DJ Clue? has brought out big names - and heavy flames - to the table with his latest production, which features fire gangsta raps by key power-players.

This twenty-three track album contains nothing short of an A-list roster, which includes names like Fabolous, Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, Nas, Jadakiss, Styles P, Game, Joe Budden, Snoop Dogg, Lloyd Banks, Rick Ross, Pharrell and Kanye West, among others.

Clue brings out Dade County's Rick Ross, who does his thing on the "Hustlin' Remix", along-side Young Jeezy and Jay-Z, who, as we all know, goes at Cam’ron from the Diplomats hard body, stating that Killa Cam's rhymes are “corny” and re-claiming his throne ("the king is back...").

Clue also blesses his listeners with "Number 1" by Pharrell, a.k.a Skateboard P, featuring Kanye West, the Louis Vuitton Don, where the two respectively rhyme to their ladies of choice.

Towards the end, Clue brings us back to the hood with the pure monster street blast, “Thug It Out," in which Jadakiss spits fire, while Swizz Beatz handles the boards.

Still, there are some points in which the CD disappoints. In “What Ya Hood Like,” Ransom raps for an excessive amount of time, leaving featured artists Fabolous and Stack Bundlez barely anytime to shine - though Fab still kills it. In the “Smokin’ Weed (Remix)," Snoop and Nate Dogg hit the spot with their west coast-infused lyrics, but, if I had "One Wish," Ray J would not be rapping about smoking weed on this particular track. Thankfully, the baller-ballers pack enough heat to outshine the weak links.

STAND-OUT TRACKS:
"Hustlin Remix" - Rick Ross Featuring Jay-Z and Young Jeezy, "Rough Around The Edges" - Busta Rhymes featuring Nas, "My House" - Lloyd Banks, "Number 1" - Pharrell Featuring Kanye West, and "Thug It Out" - Jadakiss Featuring Swizz Beatz.
