Quick Hits: Crossfade/Buckcherry, Deftones, Jack Johnson, Janis Joplin, Goo Goo Dolls, Coldplay, Def Leppard
September 20, 2006

Crossfade and Buckcherry will launch a tour together on October 10 in Las Vegas that will continue into December. Crossfade will be supporting the new album, Falling Away, that was released in August. The next single from Falling Away, "Drown You Out," is scheduled to ship to Active and Modern Rock radio on September 26. The new tune was produced by Crossfade and Randy Staub (Metallica, Nickleback).

After completing the Family Values tour with KoRn, the Deftones will launch their own headlining tour in the fall with Deadsy in support. So far it looks like the tour will begin on October 29 in Tempe, AZ. The Deftones will release their long-awaited fifth album, Saturday Night Wrist, on Halloween.

Previously unreleased tracks from both Jack Johnson and Eddie Vedder will appear on the soundtrack to Johnson's surfing documentary, A Brokedown Melody. The movie was released on DVD last year and will get a theatrical release in November, and the soundtrack is due November 14. Johnson contributes the songs "Home," "Sung" and an acoustic version of "Breakdown," according to Billboard.com. Vedder offers the ukulele track "Goodbye," which he first performed at a March 2002 solo show in Los Angeles.

Usher, who made his Broadway debut last month in the role of shady lawyer Billy Flynn in the musical Chicago, has signed on to do an extra two weeks of performances. His Broadway run now ends on October 14. As expected, Usher's presence has boosted box-office sales for the musical since he joined the cast on August 22. MTV.com reports that the show played to more than 97 percent capacity at the Ambassador Theater last week.

In the works for years, it appears a Janis Joplin biopic will finally happen. Variety reports that The Gospel According To Janis will go before the cameras in Philadelphia this November and star Zooey Deschanel (Almost Famous, Elf). Deschanel replaces Pink, who had long been in the running to play the late singer. In related news, the proposed reality show to find "the next Joplin" has been shelved.

The Goo Goo Dolls will take part in the pre-game ceremonies before the New Orleans Saints' home opener against the Atlanta Falcons this Monday, September 25. As previously reported, U2 and Green Day will also perform before the game, which is the first to be played at the Superdome since last year's devistation from Hurricane Katrina.

Congratulations to Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman, whose wife Joanna gave birth to their daughter Nico on Sunday.

Def Leppard will release a deluxe edition of their best selling album, Hysteria, on October 24. The release honors the album's 20th anniversary and the two-CD set Hysteria - Deluxe Edition will come with 15 bonus tracks recorded around the time of the original 1987 release. The collection includes all five studio b-sides of the 7" singles, five live b-sides, and all five extended remixes from 12" and CD singles. The packaging comes with additional photos, an essay by noted rock journalist David Fricke and a detailed discography.
